What is Mu Alpha Theta?

The principal purpose of Mu Alpha Theta is to stimulate a deeper interest in mathematics.

Who can be in Mu Alpha Theta?

Students who have a minimum weighted cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher are eligible to fill out a candidate information packet. Packets must be completed and turned in by the deadline in order to be considered. A faculty council comprised of five members then reviews and discusses each completed packet to decide on candidates for induction. A student is not a member until he or she has been inducted.

What does Mu Alpha Theta at OCS do?

Members  participate in math competitions and broadening their understanding of the language of mathematics.  Members of Mu Alpha Theta will take part in a mathematics competition (Log 1 contest) beginning in November.  The Log 1 contest is a three part test offered from November through January.  The Log1 contest provides an excellent opportunity for our students to participate in a mathematics competition competing against schools from across the country and the world, while staying right here at OCS.  Students compete only against other students with similar math course background.

Mu Alpha Theta has teamed up with NHS to help staff a free tutoring center after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  These leaders are encouraged to think outside of the box and encourage other high school students to strive in academic excellence.
