Middle School Musical

Based on the DreamWorks Animation hit, How to Train Your Dragon JR. brings fire-breathing action, epic adventure and big laughs to the stage. Hiccup is a young Viking who defies tradition and befriends one of his deadliest foes – a ferocious dragon he calls Toothless. Together, the unlikely heroes fight against the odds to save both their worlds in this wonderful theatrical adaptation!

All students in grades 6 - 8 are encouraged to audition.

Performance dates: April 28 - 30, 2027 @ 7:00 pm

 

AUDITION DATES: October 22 and 23, 2026 from 3:00 - 5:30PM in The Workshop

MANDATORY REHEARSAL DATES: April 29 - 23, 26 - 27, 2027

Character Breakdown

Auditions will consist of reading scenes from the script and singing a portion of a song from the show.  You may prepare by rehearsing with the sides and music links below.  Select the role or roles you are interested in and prepare those scenes.  Choose one song to prepare.  You do not need to memorize the sides/song, or bring them with you to the audition.

Upper School Musical

For the first time in forever, experience the musical phenomenon that has taken the world by storm! Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, Disney’s Frozen is a powerful tale of sisterhood, acceptance, and finding the real meaning of true love, full of magic, humor, and a stunning musical score.

All students in grades 7 - 12 are encouraged to audition.

Performance dates: March 3 - 5, 2027 @7:00 pm

Audition Day

It's the day of the auditions! Here's what you can expect when you audition for an Orangewood production.

OCS Theater Workshop

 

Orangewood auditions are held after school in The Workshop. You will sign in when you arrive and fill out an audition form. The form gives the director a little more information about you. You should bring the form into the room with you when it is your turn to audition. If you have prepared, you come to auditions knowing what role or roles you are interested in. At Orangewood, you will always be considered for all roles, but letting the director know what you are interested in shows that you've prepared and lets the director know what you would like.

After you pick up some sides to work on, you can choose someone to work with, or prepare on your own. You will have time to rehearse the sides while you wait for the director to call your name. When you sing, you will go into the audition room alone. When you read, you will be paired with someone to read the scene with you, or you can choose who you would like to work with.

You will have as much time as you need to do your audition. You may be given a note or adjustment during your audition. You may be asked to get another side and prepare an additional role. You may always ask the director if there is anything else you would like to try. The director will let you know when you are free to leave. The cast list is usually posted within a day or two on the callboard. Congratulate yourself on a job well done!

Orangewood theatre policies and procedures

OCS Theatre prides itself on producing quality shows. In order to function effectively and efficiently, and to
honor everyone involved, we need to have clear guidelines and expectations.

1.) We expect you to attend and be on time to rehearsal.

  • You must sign in with the Stage Manager at the beginning of each rehearsal. If you are running late or cannot be at rehearsal due to circumstances beyond your control, you MUST contact the Stage Manager. If there is no answer, please leave a message.
  • Two unexcused absences may result in dismissal from the production. The rehearsal schedule is built AFTER the Conflict Forms have been submitted. Please do not schedule additional appointments during the rehearsal period that conflict with the rehearsal schedule.
  • Bring your script and a pencil to every rehearsal. Write your blocking down. Rehearse at home what you have learned at rehearsal.

2.) We expect you to honor your commitment to fellow cast and crew members.

  • Encourage and respect your fellow cast members at all times. Show respect to the staff and crew members. Only the directors and stage manager should give notes to actors. We work together as an ensemble. Only kind and constructive words to or about fellow cast members are allowed.
  • There should be no talking off stage while others are working. Excessive talking will be given one warning. If the behavior persists, you will be released from rehearsal and need to call your parents to pick you up early. If you are released early from rehearsal more than once, you will be released from the production.
