The Florida Tax Credit/Florida Empowerment Scholarship - commonly referred to as "Step Up For Students" - is a state-funded scholarship for students entering grades KG - 12.

This scholarship is administered by two different agencies. If your family meets the requirements, it is important to apply immediately as funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.

FES-UA (formerly Gardiner/McKay) Scholarship

These scholarships are for Florida students three years old through twelfth grade with one of the following disabilities:

Anaphylaxis
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Muscular Dystrophy
Cerebral Palsy
Down's Syndrome
Phelan-McDermid Syndrome
Trader-Willi Syndrome
Spina Bifida
Williams Syndrome
Intellectual disability (severe cognitive impairment)
Rare diseases as defined by the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD)
Deaf
Visually impaired
Dual Sensory Impaired
Traumatic brain injury
for a 4-5-year-old, being a high-risk child

A student cannot receive this scholarship if they are already the recipient of another state-sponsored scholarship (FTC/FES-EO)

Financial Aid

Orangewood provides needs-based financial aid to enrolled students in TK - 12th grade. The school uses the services of a third-party vendor to determine eligibility in awarding the limited amount of funds to assist families each year. To qualify for assistance, parents must apply through FAST and submit the most recent years tax document. Awards will be given based on demonstrated need as determined by FAST and availability of funds.

Ms. Gigi Harris is a native Floridian, born at Homestead Air Force Base. She lived in Miami for 30 years and graduated from Florida International University with a BS in Finance and International Business. She moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for over seven years, where she earned an MBA with an emphasis in Marketing from the University of Colorado. During her time in Colorado, married and received the greatest blessing of her life—her triplet children, born five weeks after moving back to Florida. Her daughter and two sons were OCS Lifers, attending from K4 through 12th grade, and have all graduated from college in the past three years. Orangewood Church has been her home church since 2001, and she recently celebrated 20 years with Orangewood Christian School as the Finance Director. She is grateful for the wonderful church and school family she has as a result. She loves the beach and considers it the reason she returned from Colorado. Although she found the mountains beautiful and majestic, nothing compares to the vast expanse of the ocean.
