Sailing Club
Posted: 27-Apr-2011 Category: High School
The purpose of this club is to teach the fundamentals of sailing to enthusiastic persons with no previous sailing experience. All participants are required to actively participate in sailing a boat which includes handling lines, raising and lowering sails, trimming sails, and steering the boat. It is our objective to provide each participant with a positive hands-on sailing experience and your participation in the actual operation of the boat is essential. Upon successful completion of the initial club season, most students will be capable of sailing a boat in light to moderate wind conditions or crewing for others in most wind conditions.
The Orangewood Sailing Club conducted a test run of a fall sailing season and it was the best season yet!!! We had over 33 students participate in our first ever fall sailing experiment. We have collected a total of 9 Sunfish sail boats, a canoe and an assortment of kayaks so that everyone can be on the water (or in the water!) at one time. Sailing Club is now in full swing for its 6 week session for the spring. Over 30 students are participating with many first time sailors. What a beautiful site it is when all the boats are at full sail. Week one in the water was a great success. New boats and new sailors mixed well with returning club members showing them the ropes. Plenty of wind and everyone got wet.
