Box Tops for Education Program

Most of you are probably familiar with the Box Tops for Education program we've had going for several years in the lower school. You clip Box Tops from General Mills products, send them to school and Orangewood receives 10 cents for each one! We are now going to collect in the middle school!

Each homeroom in the 7th and 8th grade will collect Box Tops. The class getting the most Box Tops will receive a pizza party or other incentive at the end of each semester! The lower school will still be collecting as well, so if your student has siblings that want to give there, please feel free! You may start sending Box Tops in immediately!  Please email Beth Lu at bethlu@cfl.rr.com with any questions. Thank you!!

Carpool Safety

Although we strive to move cars on and off campus as quickly as possible, the safety of our students is always of the upmost importance. Please be sure to abide by all posted signs (including the no left turn sign near the OCS announcements board). Please do not speed in the parking area and make sure to pull all the way up in the carpool line to allow the line to move as smoothly as possible.

Enrichment

Orangewood’s Educational Services Department offers an enrichment program at the OCS lower school.  This resource program is designed to provide a challenging atmosphere for high-achieving 2nd-6th grade students who are working significantly above grade level and would benefit from enrichment beyond that offered in the regular classroom.  If you have additional questions regarding the enrichment program please contact bclark@orangewoodchristian.org.

Tardiness

This week, the lower school will begin to mark students tardy upon late arrival (must be in classroom by 7:55 AM bell). An automatic notification will be sent via email after 4:00 PM if your child receives a tardy. See below for an excerpt from our LS Parent Student Handbook:

TARDINESS

It is very important for students to arrive on time to begin the school day. Students who arrive late interrupt the teaching and learning and miss an important part of the daily activities. They often interrupt prayer and devotions. We do understand that traffic delays happen occasionally. Students who are tardy on a regular basis will receive a consequence. Students who accumulate 5 tardies will serve a morning detention from 7:00 AM to 7:45 AM. A detention is assigned for every 5 tardies. This count restarts each quarter.

Your children can be dropped off in front of the lower school office building any time between 7:30 and 7:50 AM. Teachers or staff will supervise the students as they wait at the benches. Students begin to leave the benches at 7:50 AM. Classes begin at 7:55 AM. Students are considered tardy after 7:55 AM if they are not in their classrooms at that time. If you arrive after the teachers and students have left the drop off area, please park your car in the car pool lane and walk your child to the office. Do not drop your child off at the breezeway on the side of the building or in front of the office to walk in alone. If cars are backed up in the drop off area, student tardiness will be excused .

After School Programs

After school programs will begin this week. This semester, the following programs will be offered. Please see individual flyers on each program posted below or on RenWeb under Resource Documents. Payment will be collected by individual venders at the start of each session, with the exception of Chess club, which can be returned to the Lower School front office.

OCS Parent Prep

Would you like to have a look behind the scenes of what is happening in the classroom?
Would you like to help the teachers with their evening and weekend prep work?
Would you like to get to know other Orangewood parents?

Would you have said yes to any of these questions but then followed it up with "but I haven't got enough time"? Then you could do all of these in as little as 30 minutes a month at Parent Prep.

We meet once a month but you don't have to make it every month or for the whole session. You can just pop in & pick up a pair of scissors for as little or as much time as you can spare. We bind books, cover textbooks with contact paper, create pop-up books, turn grocery bags into Indian vests, laminate, cut, paste - no experience is necessary. We have fun, share ideas & observations on life/parenting/latest pizza deals! We get to know each other better and serve the Lord helping with our children's Christian education. We would love it if you could join us; we want to get to know you better!

All that's left to ask is, would you like a free lunch?

Come join us for lunch at 12:00 PM on the Wednesdays listed below in room A-105 (Enrichment room), with a view to starting work around 12:20 PM. We run until carpool or until we are done - the more of us there are the less time it takes. Contact Steph Maughan at 407-430-3066 or steph_maughan@hotmail.com for more details. Hope to see you there!

Wednesdays: Sept 7th, Oct 5th, Nov 2nd, Dec 7th, Jan 4th, Feb 1st, Mar 7th, April 11th, May 2nd.
