Health/Medication Information

If your child needs to take medication during the school day, please pick up an authorization form in the school office or download the form on ParentsWeb. Students may be given medication at school by a staff member only if the office has written permission from a physician and if the parent has supplied the medication in the original bottle. This applies to both prescription and non-prescription medication, and to medications that are taken on an “as needed” basis. You are always welcome to come to school and administer medication to your child yourself. These are Seminole County Health Department regulations and OCS is not permitted to make exceptions.

Community Service Hours

Community Service provides an opportunity for the Orangewood Christian School student body to interface with local communities for the sake of Christ’s Kingdom. Students at Orangewood are required to complete service hours every year.  Freshman and Sophomores must complete 5 hours per semester or 10 hours per year.  Juniors and Seniors are required to complete 6 hours per semester or 12 hours per year. Service hours for first semester are due by Friday, January 6 . Service hours for second semester are due by Friday, May 25.

Students should choose activities that serve the COMMUNITY at large rather than family members. All community service must be completed with a serving organization. We strongly encourage service with the local church. Organized and supervised service with a team, group, or business may also be acceptable. It is the responsibility of the student and the student’s parents to arrange safe and appropriate opportunities to complete service hours. Students who have participated in a mission trip or service event over the summer (beginning with June 2011) may use that to fulfill their service hour’s requirement after submitting the proper paperwork to Guidance.

Return completed service hour forms to Jeff Johnson in the High School Guidance Office.

Morning Drop Off

Please pull up all the way to the white line (or as far forward as you can) when dropping off your child in the morning. Encourage your child to have his or her things together and to be ready to leave your vehicle as soon as you come to a complete stop. (There will not always be adults available to open every car door, although adults will always be supervising.) If your child can not exit your vehicle by him/herself, please park and walk him or her in.  Parents should not leave their vehicles to assist students exiting while in the drop off line.

School start - 7:55 AM
School ends - 2:50 PM
Aftercare start - 3:15 PM
Aftercare ends - 5:45 PM

On half days schools ends at 11:55 AM.

Kindergarten Dismissal - First Week Only

Kindergarten dismissal is 1:00 PM for the first week of school Monday, August 22nd—Friday, August 26th. Kindergarten students will begin the 7:55 AM-2:50 PM school hours on Monday, August 29th. If students are not picked up at 1:00 PM, the classroom teacher will supervise until 2:50 PM dismissal.

Afternoon Carpool Procedures

At 2:50 PM, using two carpool lanes, the carpool supervisor will call the student names from your car window sign and move each lane forward 10 cars at a time. The carpool supervisor will alternate between both lanes. In this way, both carpool lanes are moving at an equal rate. If you are the last car in a lane, you will receive a “last car” sign. Give the sign to the carpool supervisor. This will alert the carpool supervisor to call and release the cars from the other car pool lane. Each car must have an OCS hang tag and the names of the students on a green sign in the front right-hand corner of the dashboard.

Overflow traffic will use the Greek Church parking area. This will help us keep traffic moving through the traffic light at Wymore and Oranole. Please do not block the road at the traffic light. If you can not cross into Trinity Woods Lane, please circle around or pull into the parking spaces near the Greek sanctuary. Please refrain from using your cell phone during carpool.

We love your children as you do, and we are concerned about safety as you would expect us to be. Carpool must be safely executed each day by school personnel and parents.

Carpool Hang Tags

Orangewood Christian uses carpool hang tags to identify parents and others that are authorized to pick-up students. This tag is to be hung from your rear view mirror. All new families will receive a carpool tag at New Parent Orientation. At convocation, we will provide returning families with a date label to be placed on your carpool tag. If you would like to purchase an additional carpool tag, please contact the lower school office. In addition to the carpool tag, you must have a green window sign with the names of your children or carpool. See ParentsWeb for Carpool Sign Order Form. Beginning Monday, August 29th window signs must be displayed in front right-hand corner of the dashboard.

Lower School Aftercare Program

Students are dismissed by the classroom teachers to the after school coordinators (Jackie Caiazza and Kim Hurst) at 3:15 PM. Parents must sign students out when picked up. Students who are picked up late after school will attend the after school program until parents arrive and will be charged for the day. We will begin with aftercare on the FIRST day of school.
