OCS Lower School Newsletter 1-21-19

***Cold Weather reminder: Please label all jackets, coats and outerwear with student’s name so that if it is lost, it may be returned.

The difference between Dress Down Day and Spirit Day:

 

Dress Down

TOPS:

T-shirts, button-up shirts (including flannel shirts) and collar shirts MAY be worn.

Tank tops, camis, or spaghettistrap tops MAY NOT be worn.

Girl’s shirts should be modest with no cleavage or midriff showing.

• No offensive or questionable logos or pictures.

 BOTTOMS:

• Jeans (long or short, any color, no rips, frays, or holes), athletic pants or shorts, joggers and sweatpants MAY be worn.

• Leggings/jeggings, harem pants, pajama pants, spandex or excessively stretchy material and flannel pants MAY NOT be worn.

 

Shorts/skorts/skirts/dresses must be longer than 4 inches above the middle of the knee.

 

All other standard dress code guidelines apply.

 

Spirit Day

Students may wear a solid red shirt or an OCS shirt. No tank tops, halter tops, camis or spaghetti straps. Shirts, bluses, and dresses must have either collars or sleeves. No midriffs showing. Athletic or closed shoes only (sandals or backless shoes are not permitted). Shorts/skorts/skirts/dresses must be longer than 4 inches above the middle of the knee. Jeans or uniform style pants are permitted (no holes, rips, or frays). Skirts, shirts, and pants must be hemmed. Jeans must be loose fitting. Jeggings are not allowed. Leggings must be worn only underneath approved uniform bottoms.

 

Pastors’ Appreciation Luncheon – 3rd and 4th Grade – Jan. 24th – 11-12:30 PM

On Thursday, January 24th OCS will be hosting a luncheon for the pastors and ministry partners of our 3rd and 4th grade students. This luncheon will be held on campus and students may begin inviting their pastors so that they may reserve the date. Please respond by phone or email to Laura Palmquist at lpalmquist@ocsrams.org by Friday, January 18th so that we may plan for pastor lunches. Invitation: Link.

 

Intramural sports at OCS! Bus permission Link           Registration Link

We are excited to announce intramural sports at Orangewood! We are offering flag football for OCS 3rd-5th graders starting in February. This will be followed by volleyball and basketball later this spring (specific details to follow). Practices will be held at OCS football field on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15pm after school. There will be 6-8 games against area private schools. Games will be on Mondays and Wednesdays (game times to follow).
Transportation to practice by OCS shuttle as well as transportation to away games. Parents will need to pick up students from practice and from away games.

The fee is $175.00 which includes referee fees and an OCS game shirt for games. Your child will need solid black athletic shorts with no pockets and a mouth guard. Cleats are encouraged but tennis shoes are fine. If you are interested in having your child participate, please complete the attached flyer and return payment (Checks may be made to OCS)  to Posey Stitcher at the lower school by February 1, 2019. If you would like your child to ride the OCS shuttle to practice and away games please sign attached permission slip and return to the lower school front office. Grandparent & Grandfriend Day – Tuesday, Feb. 12th  Link

Grandparents and grandfriends of Orangewood students (K4-5th grade) are invited to attend a program and reception at our Lower School Campus. Guests are also invited to visit their student’s classroom and spend time touring the campus! Please meet us at the Greek Orthodox Church Reception Hall adjacent to the Lower School.

 

Students with the last name starting with A-K will be hosting their guests at 9:00 AM. Students with the last name starting with L-Z will be hosting their guests at 12:45 PM.

 

Any guests coming from out of town may attend the most convenient performance. (Please just let us know in advance.) All K4-5th grade students will perform in both performances and should not leave school until after the second performance.

 

We are looking for helping hands and yummy treats to make this a very special day for our guests. Please let us know how you can help make this day extra special by signing up for one of the slots below. Please see the attached link for the sign up.

 

Please drop your donations off at the lower school on Monday morning, February 11th. We will have volunteers available to take your donations in the (morning) carline. 

 

February 14th:  Teacher Work Day Camp

We are offering a camp day on February 14th.  Camp hours are 7:30am-5:30pm and include an off campus field trip.  The fee is $65 per student.  To register, please contact Sarah Powell at spowell@ocsrams.org.

OCS Lower School Soccer – GPS Link

Please see the attached link for more information about the OCS Lower School Spring Soccer program. There will be a meet and greet assembly on March 1st in which players will be able to meet their teammates and the coaches involved in the program. Parents/guardians will be able to ask program staff any questions they may have. At this meeting, all volunteer coaches will meet with Andrew Downie, the GPS program coordinator. Summer Spotlight 2019:  June 3-August 2, 2019

We are pleased to again offer OCS's Summer Spotlight camp program.  The camp is scheduled for June 3-August 2 with camp hours that extend from 7:30am-5:30pm.  Orangewood's Summer Spotlight program is taught primarily by OCS's own staff and includes camp choices in athletics, the arts, and academic enrichment.  Camp registration opens at the beginning of February!  If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Powell at spowell@ocsrams.org.

Fees:  Camp fees start at $100 for half day camp weeks and $200 for full day camp weeks.  

***Camp Champ Special:  Register your student for 6 or more full day camp weeks and receive camp pricing starting at $175 per week!***

 

Mothers In Prayer 

Come and experience the joy of praying for your child and our school. Moms In Prayer gathers to pray every Tuesday Morning, 8:00 - 9:00 am. We follow the “ACTS” pattern – Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication (Intercession). Questions?   E-mail: mitorangewood@yahoo.com. Medication Release Form: Link 

Many times we are asked for Tylenol, aspirin etc. We cannot give this to students unless we have a signed authorization form from your child’s physician. Please send the form and the bottle of medication to the school in order for us to administer to your child during the school day.

In order to volunteer at Orangewood, you must be fingerprinted and have a background check completed. Please follow the link for the directions to make an online appointment and to print and complete the waiver. Please return the signed waiver to either Orangewood campus.

12:00-12:30…..6th grades

12:15-12:35…..4th & 5th grades

If a child does not have a lunch, parents will be contacted.
