Remote Learning Improvements:

We are so proud of the way our teachers and students successfully navigated our sudden and unexpected move to remote learning last spring. And we now know what needs to be done to make it even better. We know, from experience, that an effective remote learning plan requires students to have more experiential, hands-on learning, with enhanced technology, and that faculty must have focused professional development sessions to maximize the quality of the student experience.

Orangewood Flex Learning ´╗┐Orangewood is adapting our learning environment to provide flexible options based on your family’s level of comfort and needs.  We are excited to share an updated learning plan for the 20-21 school year, and announce the launch our new OCS Flex Learning Program.

Recognizing that some families may not be ready for their child(ren) to return to campus at this time and would prefer flexible learning options, families will be given the option to learn from home. Our OCS Flex Learning Program has been modified from last spring to accommodate both students at school in the classroom as well as those that elect to take classes from home through pre-recorded remote instruction.

Our OCS Flex Learning Program will include:
  • Traditional Learning – students will resume with 5-day, Traditional on-campus student instruction.
  • OCS Flex Connect - remote learning instruction designed to support students during times illness.
    • The goal of keeping students connected to Traditional on-campus learning and instruction during times of unforeseen illness and Covid-19 exposure.
    • Students whom are impacted by illness of must temporarily quarantine may participate in Flex Connect Learning until they are permitted to return to on-campus instruction.
    • Class instruction will be pre-recorded by teachers and delivered to students through their school-issued iPad.
    • Learning will be self-paced for students to work on as they recover, and teachers will remain in contact with their remote learners.
  • OCS Flex Choice - flexible remote learning option for families, giving them the choice in when they are ready to return to on-campus instruction.
    • A flexible learning model that is based on your family’s level of comfort and needs.
    • A student will have the flexibility and choice to transition between Traditional on-campus learning and Flex Choice Learning as their family feels more comfortable and needs may change.
    • Class instruction will be pre-recorded by teachers and delivered to students through their school-issued iPad.
    • Learning will be self-paced for students to work on as they recover, and teachers will remain in contact with their remote learners.
    • Students who opt for Flex Choice Learning may switch to Traditional on-campus learning with permission from the campus principal.
Schedule and Attendance:
  • Teachers' schedules will follow usual school hours.
  • While daily attendance will not be taken in its traditional form, it will be monitored by teachers based on work accomplished and submitted daily.
