ART
The art curriculum at OCS is designed to provide students with the
skills and knowledge necessary to develop wisdom in art.
A variety of art activities are offered at the elementary level. Some of
these concentrate on drawing and skill development, while others
encourage experimentation and self-expression. Different media are used
throughout the year, watercolor, tempera, clay, etc. Projects include
self portraits, landscape drawing, metal repousse, stencil prints,
stained glass, mosaic, still life drawing, paper cutting, cartooning,
collages, weaving, etc. Students study the works of famous artists such
as Munch, Klee, Miro, Matisse, Davis, and others.
At the middle school level, students are encouraged to
understand the role and responsibility of the Christian artist. Students
study a variety of themes and ideas in the production of art. They learn
to analyze the use of space and realize the value of personal art
expression. Students begin to incorporate the elements and principles of
design into their art productions. Students are taught to use the tools
and materials of two- and three-dimensional art properly and safely.
The high school level offers specific art instruction to
further refine and develop the student's skills. Classes include:
Drawing, Painting, Graphic Design, Ceramics, 3-D Art, Sculpture, and
Advanced Placement Art in which the student will develop a portfolio
that may be submitted for college credit. Students participate in
local art shows. OCS is proud to have produced many prizewinning
entries.
