ACADEMIC CAMPS

American Girls
Taught by Janelle Crème

Description:  This course travels through American history via the eyes of American girls.  Each era studied will include reading, arts, crafts, cooking and other activities.


Chess

Cooking
Taught by Linda Green

Description:  THE ART OF COOKING - Appropriate for entering 2nd - entering 5th grade.  Monkey Bread, banana boats, walking tacos...  Do these dishes sound fun to make and eat?

Join us as we explore cooking by reading recipes, measuring, mixing, and using other appropriate academic skills.  We will also learn kitchen safety and proper use of various utensils as we prepare, taste and clean up after making a different dish each day.  The last day, your child will take home a well balanced meal to serve a family of four!  Cooking is a great way to integrate academic skills while boosting self confidence, resulting in an area of growth that can continue to be fostered throughout their formative years.


Field Trip Camp (Grades K-3rd)

Grades: K-3rd coed

Description:  Students will enjoy a fun filled week with activities such as ice skating, pottery, bounce house, puppet shows, and the local zoo.


Field Trip Camp (Grades 4th-6th)

Grades: 4th-6th coed
Fee:     $140 on or before April 1st/$150 after

Description:  Students will look forward to an active week of ice skating, bowling, rock climbing, Rebounders, and a day at the movies.


Healthy Kids, Healthy Life
Taught by Marie Kaempfer
Dates:  July 19-23
Times:  1:00pm-4:00pm
Grades: 2nd-6th coed
Fee:     $125 on or before April 1st/$135 after

Description:  With cardiovascular health on the decline, taking care of our bodies has become a tougher challenge than ever before.  Join us as we learn exciting ways to live a long, healthy, and happy life!  Students journey through an interactive Food Guide Pyramid to discover the essential nutrients our bodies need and enjoy a variety of healthy snacks.  Discover fun, new ways to get the exercise every body needs, and participate in a Healthy Body Scavenger Hunt and Healthy Heart Day!  Each student will design his own water bottle, so they can always remember the importance of drinking water.  Don’t miss out on a fun, interactive, hands-on week that will build a lasting foundation for a healthy life!


International Fun

Description:  INTERNATIONAL FUN ~ what are the people from around the world like?  What do they wear?  What do they eat?   Where are these countries located on the world map?

Join us as we explore the interesting cultures of our friends in other countries.  We will “travel around the world” with our passports to visit these countries  We will learn more about their cultures, food, clothing and even learn some of their languages!  We’ll be able to sample some typical food (not Pollo Tropical or Taco Bell!), make some fun crafts and maybe even have the opportunity to be a pen pal to a new friend from a different land!  The fun is waiting for you! Come join the traveling team and let’s have some INTERNATIONAL FUN !!!


Kindergarten Prep

Description:  This course is designed to help your student become familiar with the structure of a typical day in Kindergarten.  The class will provide the students with the opportunity to review the essential academics necessary as well as to have time to experience arts and crafts, recess, and snack time.

Logic Games

Description:  
Students will be studying logical strategy through individual and group games. They will participate in mini competitions amongst themselves and have opportunities to challenge the teacher.

Manners Camp

Description:  
Students will study social etiquette and manners including hosting, table manners and proper ways of introduction.

 

Math and Mozart

Description:  I'm not sure what this camp is about, but I'm sure it will be fun!


Monster Math
Taught by Julie DeAlba

Description:  Math is a monster and it has taken over our city!  Students will make the connection between the math skills they learn in the classroom and their real-life applications.  Each day of camp will feature a mini-unit based upon a real-life location around town.  Key math skills will be reinforced by emphasizing the math that would naturally occur in each setting.  Hands-on activities are designed to build problem-solving skills by encouraging higher-level thinking in students.  Math is meaningful and fun as students explore math in action in these familiar venues:

Pirates of the Caribbean

Description:  Life is an adventure.  Why not do it as a pirate?  In Pirate Camp, we will search for treasure, taste pirate grub, and even have pirate names.  It will be a pirate’s life of games, crafts, food, songs, stories, and a boatload of swashbuckling activities.  Get to know the real and not so real Pirates of the Caribbean.  Start practicing your Arrrggghhhs!

Rain Forest Camp

Description:  
This camp will introduce participants to three important aspects of the rain forest.  Daily activities will focus on the people, animals, and plant life. Games, crafts, literature, and terrariums will help illustrate the workings of this incredible ecosystem.  Campers will further investigate some of the challenges that are being faced within the rain forest today. 


Reading Camp

Description:  CALLING ALL READERS:  come sharpen your reading skills this summer!  Strong readers and those who struggle will both enjoy this lively camp in which the goal is to learn strategies to improve reading comprehension skills.  Three mini-units with kid-friendly topics will catch students’ interest each day, and range from a pirate shipwreck to the origin of video games.  Students will enjoy fun prereading activities, nonfiction passages, and creative follow-up activities for each unit.  Students will engage in activities featuring skills such as predicting, questioning, comparing & contrasting, identifying main idea & supporting details, drawing conclusions, fact & opinion, summarizing, and context clues.  Come join the camp where READERS ARE LEADERS!


Science

Description:  What goes on in the science laboratory?   Come and find out!  We’ll use lab equipment like microscopes and beakers and do lots of fun exploration.   We’ll be using some of the Steve Spangler science activities for intermediate age children.  Topics will include Windbag Wonders (including Floating Tables), Colorful Crystals, Rainbow Tube, Water Gel Polymers and MORE…Come join us!


Spanish

Description:  Immerse yourself in Spanish culture.  We will use our five senses to take in the many wonderful components of this great culture.  Music, food, stories, crafts, and the language itself are just the beginning of a very hands-on experience of several Spanish speaking countries.  Bring home a craft from a different country each day while building an introductory Spanish vocabulary.


Super Scientist
Taught by Julie DeAlba

Description:  You are never too young to be a super scientist!   This camp is designed to allow young learners to increase their investigative abilities and extend their knowledge of scientific concepts.   Children will have experiences that integrate science with literature, writing, math, art, dramatic play, and simple “cooking.”  Activities offered in this camp will help children develop language ability, social skills, and large and fine motor capabilities.  Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth & Space Science topics will be covered in this exciting, hands-on camp.


Storytime Fun for Everyone

Times:  1:00pm-4:00pm  for Grades 2nd-3rd coed

Description:  “ONCE UPON A TIME…”  Oh, how that phrase carries us to another time and place!  Students in this camp will be exposed to a variety of literature genres, including Adventures, Mysteries, Fantasies, Realistic Fiction, Historical Fiction, and Science Fiction.  Students will understand the parts of a story, and they will have the opportunity to respond to literature in a multitude of ways, including writing, role-playing, readers theater, artwork, advertising, and songwriting.  Come join us on an adventure into the imagination!


Study Group
Dates:  June 1-August 6  See calendar for specific weeks

Grades: 1st-6th coed
Fee:     $50 on or before April 1st/$60 after

Description:  Give your student head start to a successful school year.  We will have organized study time to enrich and review academic skills to prepare for the upcoming year.  Reading comprehension, computer skills, and memory retention will be some of the areas of focus.
